Music Ministry

"O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; let usmake a joyful noise to Him with songs of praise!" Psalm 95:1-2

Worship is much more than the singing done on Sunday mornings. Worship is how we live our everyday lives in response to our loving God. We seek to delight and enjoy the goodness of our God by obeying and following His commands. This is how we best love Him (John 14:21). Corporate worship is one very important expression of that love. In our service at WBC, we seek to celebrate and give honor to God through a diverse and eclectic music style in order to best glorify our God and serve our congregation and community. There is something for everyone to enjoy and participate in at WBC! Come join us!

Ways to Serve

Worship Choir

This is the foundational element of the WBC music ministry. All of our other musical elements grow out of our Worship Choir which leads the congregational music every Sunday morning as well as during special services. Open to all attendees and members ages 6th grade and up. Rehearsals are Wednesday from 7:45 - 8:45 PM. We are always looking to expand our choir membership and would love to have you serve with us!

Qualifications: There are no musical auditions for the choir, just a willingness to serve our Lord and congregation through song. Basic music skills are learned during rehearsals. Members should exhibit a desire to serve God faithfully by giving of one’s time and talents, a willingness to learn and expand their musical abilities, a cheerful and cooperative spirit, a commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals and worship services, and a loving respect for one another and the director.

Worship Team:

Works in association with the choir to lead music in our weekly Sunday services. Open to members who have shown dedicated leadership in the church body. Rehearsals are Wednesday from 8:45-10:15pm. We would love to have you join us! Those desiring to serve with the Worship Team are required to interview with Melody Brackett, our minister of music, and then give a short audition in your area of talent (vocals or band). Members are selected based on spiritual maturity, technical skills, and the potential for fulfilling the goals of the music ministry.

  • Band Qualifications: Because of the nature of the music we play, participants must be able to work off of a chord chart and construct their own basic part based around audio recordings or direction of the music minister. Time is required outside of Wednesday rehearsal to listen to audio recordings to become familiar with parts.
  • Vocalist Qualifications: Participation in the choir is required for worship team vocalists. Vocalists must be able to work off of a chord chart and be able to pick out harmony parts by ear. Participants will need to be strong, contemporary vocalists able to lead the congregation in singing. Time is required outside of Wednesday rehearsal to listen to audio recordings to become familiar with parts.

Handbell Choir:

This amazing group of "ding-a-lings” (as we affectionately call them) provide music for special seasons such as Easter and Christmas as well as other times throughout the year. Rehearsals are on Sundays from 5-6 pm, August - May.

Qualifications: Music reading is helpful but not required for participation.

Soloist or Special Musician:

For special music during services. All the musical talents are welcome to be used even if you are not able to commit to the choir or worship rehearsal schedule. Open to members who have shown dedicated leadership in the church body or guest musicians who are actively involved in a church music ministry.

Qualifications: To perform special music, musicians are required to meet with Melody Brackett, our minister of music, and then give a short audition in your area of talent (vocals or other instrument).

Unique Instrumentalists:

With the wide variety of music that the WBC music ministry plays there is always an opportunity to utilize the sounds of every type of exotic instrument! If you play anything from the trombone to the accordion to the bag pipes, harmonica, or penny whistle, cello, violin, trumpet, or french horn, we want to know about you!

Qualifications: Because of the nature of the music we play, participants must be able to work off of a chord chart and write their own basic part based around audio recordings or direction of the music minister.

Children’s Choir:

Our children’s music ministry is growing and in need of all the help we can get! We currently meet on select Sunday evenings in the Fall as well as throughout the summer to put on WAM Camp, a worship, arts, and music camp that culminates in a musical production.

Qualifications: A love of children and teaching is a must! A background in music is helpful but not a requirement. All child care workers must complete the appropriate background check as require by our Child Protection Policy.

Sound & AV Team:

Do you love music and technology? This is the perfect place for you to serve! We are always looking for people willing to serve behind the scenes on the production side of our services.

Qualifications: An ear for music, a love of technology, and love of learning new things. All the training is provided.

Music Team:

This is for church members who want to be hands on in the leadership of the music ministry. All team members work with the music minister to set a vision and direction for the ministry. They are each assigned an area of focus for the music ministry where they act as the direct line of communication for the minister of music to this ministry component.

Qualifications: A desire to serve, to participate in the organizational side of the music ministry, and to be willing to jump in with both feet.

For more information on any of these areas of service, please e-mail or call Melody Brackett, the minister of music.
